Pitch

30 second trial video

https://vimeo.com/1117116949

I made this video in May 2025 to get a clear understanding of the process of making a music video. In doing so, I was able to see which ideas looked good and which ones I would not be including in my final video. This was a good practice for me to get to grips with matching the lip syncing to the song and filming/editing different angles.

I wanted to include a graphic element so I tested out an app called FlipaClip to animate the title of the song. Once watching a few YouTube videos, it was fairly easy to understand and use. I’m unsure whether I will use graphic animation in my final video as, although it is more visually appealing, I don’t know how will it aligns with the brief of ‘pop ballad’. I think that I can maybe utilise the app to do animation of a different kind or even make the title and artist name appear in a more sophisticated manner to better fit the brief.

Initial Ideas of themes and visuals

"Pink + White" by Frank Ocean is a dreamy, nostalgic ballad that explores themes of memory, love, loss, and the passage of time. It fits the brief of a pop ballad through its emotional depth, soft yet rich instrumentation, and evocative storytelling. Produced by Pharrell Williams, the track features warm pianos, soft beats, and ethereal harmonies that create an intimate, ballad-like feel.

The song reminisces about a past relationship and the carefree days of youth, evoking a sense of longing for a time that can’t be reclaimed. Which is why my aim for the focus of my music video will be clips of happy, carefree times that the artist is recalling.

This song could be viewed as challenging stereotypical norms due to it leaning into alternative R&B and neo-soul however, its lyrical poignancy, smooth production, and heartfelt delivery align with the qualities of a classic pop ballad.

General/Industrial Research

Just The Way You Are - Bruno Mars
In this music video, I like how the artist name and the name of the song are shown through music tape at 0.17 - 0.25 seconds. I would like to take inspiration from this style of intro by possibly creating my own drawing animation over the video or getting a stop-motion sequence of clips to show the title of the song and the artist’s name.

Hell N Back - Bakar
I like how there are shots of the artist singing towards the camera in amongst shots of the artist dancing and chilling in their free time. I would like to take inspiration from Bakar walking along the beach and singing; the artist looks like he is enjoying himself throughout the video and, although pop ballads conventionally have a slow and sensual feel, I would still like my music ‘artist’ to look happy and content throughout my music video.
